The fight against poverty and job creation are making major progress thanks to the multiple actions of the government. The educational world and several thousand young job seekers benefit from the recent decision of the Ministry in charge of the Public Service to launch a teacher recruitment competition.
Instead of the 3,500 new civil servant teachers announced by the Ministry of Primary, Secondary, Technical and Handicraft Education to strengthen the workforce for the year 2023-2024, it is ultimately 4,501 people who will be recruited.
More teachers, the better for the system
Raising the quality of education in Togo as the government wishes, obviously requires the provision of qualified teachers in sufficient numbers to the educational world. In recent years, primary and secondary education have seen their numbers constantly increase. In addition to the 41,685 teachers listed in 2020, there were 2,400 new recruits in 2021 and 3,000 in 2022.
For the new recruitment, the distribution envisaged is 850 candidates for preschool, 1,680 for primary school, 824 for the first cycle of secondary school (middle school). The second cycle of secondary (high school) will have 676 teachers and 471 will be for technical and vocational secondary.
A boon for volunteer teachers
This is guaranteed by the public authorities. Recruitment concerns several sectors, it will especially give pride of place to volunteer teachers whose situation is the subject of special attention from the executive.
Since the implementation of its employment policy in 2018 and updated in 2021 with the aim of creating decent jobs for young people, thousands of jobs have been created throughout the country.
In 2020, it was estimated that more than 200,000 direct and indirect functions were created within the framework of the National Development Program (PND 2018-2022). As part of this same employment policy, the Ministry of Grassroots Development can claim in 2021, 26,200 sustainable jobs created for young people through the financing of projects and programs to the tune of 19 billion CFA francs.
